Helping young adults to develop an entrepreneurial spirit.
There comes a time in everyone's life when they take their first job and discover the realities of being in a work place, expected to show up on time every day and meet employer expectations. For some this is an easy transition because they are doing work they want to do and for which they are well prepared. For others, the first (or subsequent) job experience is very difficult.
To help prepare our program participants for the world of work, we have a comprehensive approach of teaching, assisting with job search, and job coaching. At our on-site training center (with computers, Internet access, fax, overhead projector, and television and video), we prepare youth through classes and role-playing. We offer adult basic education and preparation for the GED exam as well as for post-secondary education.
Our employment specialist helps program participants find jobs, prepare applications and resumes, prepare for interviews, and overcome initial setbacks or workplace conflicts. The employment specialist has developed relationships with employers in a variety of industries. These employers are willing to hire our youth and help them improve their skills.
The youth learn these skills along with the basics of holding a job: punctuality, consistency, and basic workplace etiquette
